A Kitchen Remodel Experience

When Dick and Joan Miller decided to update their 1940's cottage-style home in Sandy, they wanted to create a larger feel that would be low maintenance, yet elegant and timeless. They focused on the kitchen, utility room, and front entryway. "Our goal," note Dick and Joan, "was to create space, have a better flow, and to upgrade appliances. We wanted to bring our home up to new home standards."

With help from Advantage Services, they considered a number of design options and arrived at a plan that would accomplish their goals. The scope of the project would include the following changes:

  • Moving the powder and laundry rooms to allow for kitchen expansion
  • Tearing down all existing kitchen and interior walls
  • Converting the breezeway into a mud room, laundry room, and powder room
  • Adding a new back porch and deck
  • Adding a new side deck with French doors and Trex® decking
  • Creating a new main entry with a covered porch, coat closet, and crosscut travertine flooring

Once the plan was set in motion, Dick and Joan handed over the house keys and set off for an extended vacation. When they returned 12 weeks later, their kitchen had gone from cramped and cluttered... to spacious and timeless.

The project, which was completed on time and on budget, far surpassed Dick and Joan's expectations. "Our reactions were more than we could have ever expected—we love it!"
